Seven songs have been selected as candidate theme songs for the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing organizers said on Monday.

An evaluation committee, made up of musicians and experts, picked out these songs from 305 valid entries received since the solicitation was launched in April, the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) said.

BOCOG said it would continue to invite entries on an annual basis till the end of 2007, and some 10 songs would be chosen each year.

The theme song for the 2008 Games will eventually emerge from the yearly winners.
