3432Hi, I'm writing this from California. If most of the people on this message board are Chinese, then why do so many of you have American or English names?

3433 Hi Richard, since people coming here are Chinese and Foreign friends, it'll be easier for them to communicate if the Chinese have an English name.

Besides, we don't suggest using Chinese here, so the only way to show your Chinese name is using 'Pinyin'. It'll be more difficult for others remember you :)

3434 Hi, Richard.
I think it will be more convenient for us to contact with foreigners if we have an English name. And if we haven't, can you understand our name and how can you say hello to us?

3446 i just know english is very useful for everyone and if you want to go abroad ,i think english is the most basic language .so the english name is very important .another reason is that it is easier to call and remember for foreigners ,it is just my opinion.

3470 I try to get to know my chinese friends by their English ames first then when i am comfortable with them and they with me i would always make the effort to try to learn their Chinese names.

I guess at first it's just easier. Also, many Chinese people choose names which British people would not. I think many of the names they choose for themselves are very beautiful. In my school i have an Apple. i think its a lovely name but nobody in Britain would be called that.

i suppose this could pull me nearer with my some foreign friends,do you think so ?
now that i tell them my chinese name ,they can not understand it.and it is useless,or is it??

3506 we want to have english names just like the chinese-learners are eager to have their chinese names ,which seems somewhat close to the enlish learning environment.
